Guest Hostess Lynn Jimenez

Lynn Jimenez is hosting "Moneytalk with Bob Brinker" today.

Lynn Jimenez was named as the permanent guest host of the nationally syndicated radio show "MoneyTalk with Bob Brinker" back the fall of 2009.   At that time, Lynn celebrated 20 years as the weekday morning business reporter on the number one radio station in San Francisco, KGO.  KGO also carried "Moneytalk with host Bob Brinker."

Lynn took an extended leave from KGO last year to "tend to her ailing father. In fact, Jimenez donated one of her kidneys to her father and wrote extensively about it and what it felt like."

Jimenez has been off the air at KGO since Nov. 18, 2012 but she still does the occasional Moneytalk fill-in.

KGO is no longer the ratings leader in the Bay Area.  That position currently belongs to KCBS "All News 740AM & 106.9FM." In an attempt to catch up with KNBR or even regain their number one rating slot, KGO dropped several shows including those of Bob Brinker and Dr. Bill Wattenburg.

In December of 2011, KGO dropped Moneytalk for poor ratings KGO Drops Moneytalk with Bob Brinker. On December 7, 2011 the owners of 50 kilowatt KGO decided to add Moneytalk to their 5 kilowatt (less powerful) station, KSFO. It appears they kept Lynn on as the permanent guest host.

Lynn Jimenez & Bob Brinker's Market Outlook

Happy Easter!

This weekend Lynn Jimenez was the guest hostess for "Moneytalk with host Bob Brinker."  It was pointed out in the comments section here that Lynn filled in for Bob Brinker on the second Sunday of each of the first three months so far in 2012.  Today made it four months in a row:
  1. January 8
  2. February 12
  3. March 11
  4. April 10
Bob Brinker's Market Outlook

If you wonder about Bob Brinker's views on the market, he has been fully invested since March 2003.  He recommends 100% of your investment portfolio in equities if you are in his model portfolio one or two for those with aggressive growth and long-term growth objectives, respectively.   His "balanced" model portfolio #3 for "capital preservation and modest growth" is currently about two thirds in equities and one third in fixed income.

While his model portfolios #1 and #2 are 100% in equities, Brinker currently recommends dollar cost averaging "new money" into the market.  Thus, if you are one of the three Super Lotto winners, Brinker would not advise you to lump sum your winnings into the stock market at this time.

Long Term Results that Speak for Themselves

Moneytalk Old and New Regulars Lynn Jimenez, Bill Flanagan & Dr. Bill

This weekend Lynn Jimenez was the guest hostess for "Moneytalk with host Bob Brinker." There was some confusion posted in the comments section of our announcement "Lynn Jimenez Named Permanent Guest Host of "Moneytalk with Bob Brinker" that I will address here.

Lynn Jimenez was named as the permanent guest host of the nationally syndicated radio show "MoneyTalk with Bob Brinker" back the fall of 2009.   At that time, Lynn celebrated 20 yeas as the weekday morning business reporter on the number one radio station in San Francisco, KGO.  KGO also carried "Moneytalk with host Bob Brinker."

On December 7, the owners of 50 kilowatt KGO decided to add Moneytalk to their 5 kilowatt (less powerful) station, KSFO. It appears they kept Lynn on as the permanent guest host.

For as long time, Bill (William G.) Flanagan (Bill Flanagan Fan Club) was the regular substitute for Bob Brinker. Bill wrote a very good book called "Dirty Rotten CEOs" where he accurately described how CEOs were (and are) "Fleecing America."   Bill died last year and Bob Brinker paid tribute to him during his February 5, 2012 broadcast.

Some have confused Bill (William G.) Flanagan the guest host with one of Bob's regular third hour guests "Dr. Bill" Wattenburg (website) who was also fired from KGO (story) the same time Brinker's show was dropped.

Gil Gross Replaced Bob Brinker at WABC-NY

We get a lot of emails asking what happened to "Moneytalk" hosted by Bob Brinker on WABC in New York and why was KGO-AM in San Francisco's business reporter Lynn Jimenez chosen as a permanent guest host for Moneytalk. I believe the answers to both questions are very much related.

On July 27, 2009 we reported
WABC Radio NY Drops Moneytalk Hosted by Bob Brinker.
Then on August 16, 2009 we reported and asked
Gil Gross' "Real Estate Today" Replaced Bob Brinker Moneytalk at WABC in NY. Is KGO in SF Next?
WABC replaced "Moneytalk" with Gill Gross's nationally syndicated, two hour "Real Estate Today" radio program. Gill Gross does the 2 to 4PM weekday slot on top ranked KGO-AM. (KGO is 810 on your radio dial in the San Francisco Bay Area.) Gross replaced the late Pete Wilson in 2007 at KGO and has done a fantastic job replacing a Bay Area icon.

In the Bay Area, "Real Estate Today" is now heard on "Hot Talk" KSFO 560-AM on Saturdays from 1 to 3PM. Los Angeles gets the show on "Talk Radio" 790 KABC-AM on Saturdays from 8 to 10AM.

Citadel owns KABC, KGO and KSFO plus Moneytalk. If they replaced "Moneytalk" with "Real Estate Today" in New York it was probably due to ratings since they own both shows. I believe Lynn Jimenez was picked as a permanent guest host for Moneytalk for several reasons including:
  • Brinker is getting old and could retire or die early like his parents did.
  • Demographics: Women and Hispanics are under represented on financial radio shows carried by major networks.
Several times in the past years, highly qualified Terry Savage was the guest host whom I thought was FAR better than Bob Brinker at actually listening to callers' questions and giving answers unbiased by the need to sell Marketimer newsletters. Terry would have made the ideal replacement, perhaps even moving Brinker to part time status in preparation for retirement.

From the "Terry Savage Fan Club"
Terry's financial knowledge comes from experience in the trenches. She started her career as a stockbroker, and became a founding member -- and the first woman trader -- on the Chicago Board Options Exchange. Savage was also a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange's International Monetary Market where she traded interest rate contracts and currency futures. She is a registered investment advisor for both stocks and futures.
I have exchanged emails with Terry and continue to get her regular emails on both her fans and friends lists. Terry had expressed an interest in doing Moneytalk as the regular guest host but I believe she was passed over for Lynn Jimenez because Lynn has the Hispanic demographic and, probably more importantly, Lynn is already an employee of Citadel through KGO in San Francisco. Similar to baseball, Citadel prefers to bring up cheaper talent through the farm system than going out to get a high priced, very talented free agent.
